Volunteer opportunities with the Hellenic Ornithological Society: Important Bird Areas Caretaker

Where

Important Bird Areas all over Greece

Why We Want You

The number of IBA sites are so large and the areas are so dispersed throughout the country, which does not allow monitoring by the Hellenic Ornithological Society. The volunteers are our only way to learn about the situation and to collect data over time for a IBA and intervene in cases of threats.

What's In It For You

  • You contribute to the protection and conservation of an IBA which is in your area. The biodiversity conservation is a component of life quality
  • You participate in a network of active citizens that are active all over Greece, with which you can discuss, face common challenges and meet new people and places.
  • You can come in contact with HOS in order to ask for advice concerning threats or to do a denouncement, in order HOS to take action.

The Skills You Need

  • Desire to learn more about nature.
  • Hack value to protect your area.
  • Time to visit your area and learn its physical characteristics.

Your time:

When

All year long

Commitment

  • Visiting IBA at least 3 times a year.
  • Comitment to monitor the area for 3 years minimum.
  • Sending annual report regarding the IBAs’ state to the project’s coordinator.
  • Attendance to the annual caretakers’ seminar - training.

Notes

Appropriate training is provided through annual seminars. All participants in the project are included in a mailinglist, in order to communicate directly to each other.
