Site Description
A long ridge west of the River Acheloos. The site is dominated by maquis, oak Quercus woodland, and at higher altitudes fir Abies forests. Human activities include stock-raising and arable agriculture.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (10%, Arable land), Coastline/rocky areas (8%, Inland cliffs), Forest (50%, Broadleaved deciduous woodland; Broadleaved evergreen woodland; Native coniferous woodland; Treeline ecotone), Shrubland (40%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis; Scrub)
Land use: agriculture (70%), not utilised (30%)

Protection status
National Partial International None 3,600ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Kanala Valtou, 3,600ha). 1,560ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Mesonyhi- Fountes/Klidi- Skoulikaria, 1,560ha).10157 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) ORI VALTOU(GR2310012).
Birds
The site is important for species typical of Mediterranean woodland and scrub. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Falco naumanni (4- 8 breeding pairs).

Conservation issues
The site is threatened by agricultural intensification, grazing preventing forest regeneration and a planned construction of a new dam on the River Acheloos.
