Site Description
An area of freshwater lakes, fen and wet meadows. An area of forest exists on an island in Lake Kalodiki. The surrounding slopes are covered with maquis.

National Partial International None 300ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Valtos Kalodikiou/Margaritiou- Eleftheriou- Spatharaion, 300ha).1806 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) ELI KALODIKI, MARGARITI, KARTERI & LIMNI PRONTANI(GR2120006).

Conservation issues
Threats include the dumping of waste (`Other' threats, above), the expansion of agriculture, uncontrolled water extraction, water pollution, and hunting. There are plans to develop tourism. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
