Site Description
A gorge with alluvial forest and surrounding hills covered by phrygana. The site includes a small wetland. Human activities include stock-raising, arable agriculture, quarrying and hunting.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (Arable land), Coastline/rocky areas (Inland cliffs), Forest (Alluvial and very wet forest), Shrubland (Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis), Wetland (Rivers and streams)
Land use: agriculture (80%), not utilised (10%), unknown (10%)

Protection status
National Partial International None Part of the IBA is covered by Wildlife Refuge (Palaikastra/Elaias- Arahovas- Sideris, 2,350ha).3483 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) STENA PARAKALAMOU(GR2120007).
Birds
This is an important area for raptors and species found in phrygana. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila heliaca (non-breeding).
