Site Description
A large limestone massif, south of the town of Metsovo. The site has an extensive area of alpine grassland, cliffs, scree and gorges. Part of the site is covered by fir Abies and beech Fagus forest. The main human activity is livestock-farming.

Habitats: Coastline/rocky areas (Inland cliffs; Scree and boulders), Forest (Broadleaved deciduous woodland; Mixed woodland; Native coniferous woodland; Treeline ecotone), Grassland (Alpine, subalpine and boreal grassland)

Protection status
National Partial International None 1,867ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Koutsouyo- Tzakouta- Mnimata/Katafigiou- Plakas- Anthousas, 1,867ha). 1,550ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Kalouta- Nikoulitsa/Kalariton, 1,550ha).20123 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) OROS LAKMOS (PERISTERI)(GR2130007).

The site is important for species associated with alpine grassland, cliffs and scree.

Conservation issues
The main threat is from illegal hunting, particularly of raptors. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
