Site Description
A mountainous valley dominated by Pinus and Fagus forests. Human activities include livestock farming and tourism.

Habitats: Coastline/rocky areas (10%, Scree and boulders), Forest (70%, Broadleaved deciduous woodland; Mixed woodland; Native coniferous woodland), Grassland (20%, Alpine, subalpine and boreal grassland; Mesophile grasslands)

Land use: agriculture (90%), forestry (35%), tourism/recreation (5%)

Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Dimasio Dasos Flabourarious and Vovousas, 861 ha). 6,927 ha of IBA covered by National Park (Pindos, 6,927 ha). 3,360 ha of IBA covered by Biogenetic Reserve (Council of Europe) (Pindos National Park (core area), 3,360 ha).
3294 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) ETHNIKOS DRYMOS PINDOU(GR1310002).


Birds
This is an important area for breeding raptors and forest species. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila heliaca (non-breeding).

Conservation issues
The most important threat is a plan to divert the Arkoudorema river. There is high grazing pressure in the core area of the National Park. A number of conservation and development studies have been conducted. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

Threats: construction/impact of dyke/dam/barrage (high), forest grazing (unknown), recreation/tourism (medium), selective logging/cutting (medium), unsustainable exploitation (medium)
