Site Description
A rugged mountain dominated by scrub. The adjacent gorge and valley contains some riverine forest. Human activities include stock-raising and hunting.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (15%, Arable land), Coastline/rocky areas (5%, Inland cliffs), Forest (5%, Alluvial and very wet forest), Grassland (5%, Steppes and dry calcareous grassland)
Land use: agriculture (60%), water management (5%)

Protection status
National Partial International None 1,750ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Pinindos, 1,750ha).4168 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) STENA KALAMAKIOU KAI ORI ZARKOU(GR1420009).
Birds
This is an important area for resident raptors and species characteristic of open habitats.

Conservation issues
The main threat is from hunting. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
