Site Description
A mountainous site with broadleaved deciduous woodland, cliffs, and riverine forest in the valleys. Human activities include forestry, stock-raising, hunting, and recreation.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (25%, Arable land), Coastline/rocky areas (5%, Inland cliffs), Forest (30%, Alluvial and very wet forest; Broadleaved deciduous woodland), Grassland (15%, Steppes and dry calcareous grassland), Shrubland (30%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)

National Partial International Partial
855 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Arkoudorema-Plastira/Spathadon, 855 ha). 2,000 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Gerakariou, 2,000 ha). 700 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Kanalaki/Kastrakiou-Vlachavas, 700 ha). Part of IBA covered by Controlled Hunting Area (Koziakas, 48,360 ha). 375 ha of IBA covered by World Heritage Site (Meteora Group of Monasteries, 375 ha).
55220 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) POTAMOS PINIOS - ANTICHASIA ORI(GR1440005).
Birds
This is an important area for breeding raptors, forest species and species associated with open montane habitats. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila heliaca (non-breeding), Falco naumanni (passage).
