Site Description
A partly forested mountain area. Human activities include forestry, stock-raising, hunting, arable agriculture, and tourism.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (Arable land), Coastline/rocky areas (Inland cliffs), Forest (Broadleaved deciduous woodland; Native coniferous woodland), Grassland (Alpine, subalpine and boreal grassland), Shrubland (Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)

Land use: agriculture (90%), forestry (65%), hunting (95%), nature conservation and research, tourism/recreation (20%)

Part of IBA covered by Controlled Hunting Area (Koziakas, 48,360ha)19720 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) KORYFES OROUS KOZIAKA(GR1440006).


Birds
This is an important area for breeding raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila heliaca.

Conservation issues
Major threats come from the construction of the Pili dam and the creation of a reservoir. The construction of two roads threatens a Gyps fulvus colony and breeding Neophron percnopterus . Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

Threats: construction/impact of dyke/dam/barrage (high), infrastructure (high), intensified forest management (unknown), recreation/tourism (low), selective logging/cutting (unknown), unsustainable exploitation (medium)
