Site Description
An artificial lake with extensive reedbeds ( Phragmites ). The adjacent hills are dominated by scrub, pastures and orchards with small areas of forest.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (10%, Perennial crops, orchards and groves), Grassland (20%, Humid grasslands; Steppes and dry calcareous grassland), Wetland (70%, Fens, transition mires and springs; Standing freshwater; Water fringe vegetation)

Land use: agriculture (10%), fisheries/aquaculture (30%), water management (70%)

National Partial International High
500 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Elos-Limni Agra/Agra-Nisiou-Bryton, 500 ha).
1386 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) LIMNI KAI FRAGMA AGRA(GR1240006).


Birds
This is an important site for species associated with reedbeds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Phalacrocorax pygmeus (passage), Pelecanus crispus (passage), Aythya nyroca (4 breeding pairs).

Conservation issues
The main threats are from agricultural intensification and clear- cutting of the remaining forests. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
