Site Description
The site includes part of the north-eastern coastline of Crete and the island of Elasa. The area is dominated by phrygana and maquis scrub with some olive-groves and vineyards.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (20%, Perennial crops, orchards and groves), Coastline/rocky areas (5%, Sea cliffs and rocky shores), Shrubland (80%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)
Land use: agriculture (70%), military (5%), tourism/recreation (20%)

National Low International Low
20 ha of IBA covered by Aesthetic Forest (Vai, 20 ha).
3883 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) VOREIOANATOLIKO AKRO KRITIS(GR4320009).
Birds
This is an important site for species associated with coastal cliffs and scrub and for passage migrants.

Conservation issues
The main threats are from agricultural intensification and hunting. The area is a candidate SAC.
