Site Description
Two mountains dominated by scrub with some Pinus woodland, recently reduced in extent by fire. Human activities include livestock-farming and hunting.

Habitats: Coastline/rocky areas (30%, Inland cliffs; Scree and boulders), Forest (10%, Native coniferous woodland), Shrubland (60%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)

Land use: agriculture (80%), not utilised (20%)

Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Monastiraki/Pachias Ammou- Kato Choriou, 700ha).1600 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NOTIODYTIKI THRYPTI (KOUFOTO)(GR4320014).


Birds
This is an important site for resident raptors and species associated with upland scrub.

Conservation issues
The main threat is from agricultural expansion. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

Threats: abandonment/reduction of land management (low), agricultural intensification/expansion (high), burning of vegetation (unknown), firewood collection (medium), forest grazing (low), selective logging/cutting (medium)
