Site Description
An island in the Gulf of Iraklio surrounded by small rocky islets. The island has steep cliffs covered with phrygana and other scrub.

Habitats: Coastline/rocky areas (25%, Rock stacks and islets; Sea cliffs and rocky shores), Sea/marine area (5%, Sea inlets and coastal features), Shrubland (90%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)

Land use: fisheries/aquaculture (5%), hunting (90%), tourism/recreation (5%)

1,250ha of IBA covered by Controlled Hunting Area (Dia, 1,250ha).1250 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISOS DIA(GR4310003).


Birds
This is an important site for breeding seabirds and species associated with coastal cliffs.

Conservation issues
Introduced goats have caused serious overgrazing. Tourism development is a serious threat for the near future. The area is a candidate SAC.
