400 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISIDES KARPATHIOU PELAGOUS: MEGALO SOFRANO, SOCHAS, MIKRO SOPHRANO, AVGO, DIVOUNIA, CHAMILI, ASTAKIDONISIA(GR4210023).
Birds
This site is important for breeding seabirds and for raptors associated with coastal cliffs. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii (10 breeding pairs).
