Site Description
This site includes the north and east part of Kalimnos and islets from Telendos to Kalolimnos and Limnia. Kalimnos is heavily grazed and rocky.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (10%, Arable land; Urban parks and gardens), Coastline/rocky areas (40%, Caves; Inland cliffs; Rock stacks and islets; Scree and boulders; Sea cliffs and rocky shores), Grassland (Steppes and dry calcareous grassland), Sea/marine area (Open Sea; Sea inlets and coastal features), Shrubland (40%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis), Wetland (5%, Shingle or stony beaches)

Land use: agriculture (60%), military (15%), not utilised (10%), tourism/recreation (10%), urban/industrial/transport (5%)

590 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISIDES KALYMNOU: EPANO, NERA, SARI, TELENDOS(GR4210019).


Birds
An important site for breeding raptors and species associated with cliffs and scrub. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (non-breeding).

Conservation issues
The main threats are hunting, overgrazing and tourist developments. A management plan was produced as a result of a LIFE project. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
