Site Description
A complex of 42 islets and the solitary Pharmakonisi islet. The area is generally overgrazed.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (25%, Arable land; Perennial crops, orchards and groves; Urban parks and gardens), Coastline/rocky areas (20%, Rock stacks and islets; Sea cliffs and rocky shores), Shrubland (70%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)
Land use: agriculture (85%), fisheries/aquaculture, military (15%), urban/industrial/transport (10%)

1500 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISOS AGATHONISIOU KAI NISIDES: PITTA, KATSAGANI, NERONISI, STRONGYLI(GR4210015).950 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISOS LEIPSOI (DYTIKO TMIMA) & NISIDES: FRAGKOS, MAKRONISI, PILAFI, KAPARI, KALAPODIA, MEGALO ASPRONISI, MAKRY ASPONISI, KOYLOYRA, NOTIA ASPRA,SARAKINA, PIATO, PSOMOS, STAVRI, LIRA, ARETHOYSA, MANOLI(GR4210016).570 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) VOREIODYTIKO TMIMA ARKION & NISIDES: AGRELOYSA, STROGGYLI,SPALATHI, SMINERO, TSOYKA, TSOYKAKI, PSATHONISI, KALOVOLOS, MAKRONISI, AVAPTISTOS, KOMAROS(GR4210017).90 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISIDES LEROU: PIGANOUSA, MEGALO GLARONISI, MIKRO GLARONISI, LERIKO(GR4210018).
Birds
The site is important for breeding raptors and seabirds, and for passage migrants. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Falco naumanni (2- 5 breeding pairs).

Conservation issues
The main threats are from overgrazing and hunting. The site was included in a LIFE project on the conservation of Larus audouinii . Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
