Site Description
A complex of small islands and islets east of Naxos. The majority are covered with maquis and phrygana. Human activities include fishing, stock-raising, tourism and hunting.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (10%, Arable land; Other urban and industrial areas), Coastline/rocky areas (15%, Inland cliffs; Rock stacks and islets; Sea cliffs and rocky shores), Sea/marine area (5%, Open Sea; Sea inlets and coastal features), Shrubland (70%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)

Land use: agriculture (60%), fisheries/aquaculture (5%), not utilised (20%), tourism/recreation (10%)

2050 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISOS IRAKLIA, NISOI MAKARES, MIKROS KAI MEGALOS AVELAS, NISIDA VENETIKO IRAKLIAS(GR4220021).


Birds
This is an important site for breeding seabirds and raptors associated with coastal cliffs. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii .
