Site Description
Mountains covered with phrygana and to a lesser degree with maquis and forest. Human activities include livestock-farming, fishing and hunting. The pastures are managed with fire.

346ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Fanari/Filotiou Naxou, 346ha). Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Troulos/Filotiou Naxou, 1,200ha). 480ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Za/Koronou Naxou, 480ha).11938 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NAXOS: ORI ANATHEMATISTRA, KORONOS, MAVROVOUNI, ZEFS, VIGLATOURI(GR4220026).
Birds
This is an important site for passage and breeding raptors and species associated with scrub.

The main threats are from overgrazing, fire and the use of poisoned baits. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
