Site Description
A complex of 16 islands characterized by cliffs and rocky shores. The dominant vegetation is phrygana and maquis with some olive-groves and cereal fields. Human activities include livestock-farming, fishing, hunting and recreation.

Habitats: Artificial landscapes (5%, Arable land; Perennial crops, orchards and groves), Coastline/rocky areas (20%, Rock stacks and islets; Sea cliffs and rocky shores), Sea/marine area (10%, Sea inlets and coastal features), Shrubland (65%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)
Land use: agriculture (65%), fisheries/aquaculture (10%), not utilised (25%), tourism/recreation (5%)

5000 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) NISOS FOURNOI KAI NISIDES THIMAINA, ALATSONISI, THIMAINAKI, STRONGYLO, PLAKA, MAKRONISI, MIKROS KAI MEGALOS ANTHROPOFAGOS, AGIOS MINAS(GR4120006).
Birds
This is an important area for breeding seabirds and species typical of Mediterranean scrub. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla .
