Site Description
The higher parts of the mountain are dominated by Abies forest and lower areas by Pinus forest, maquis and phrygana. Part of the site is a military area. The main human activity is recreation and tourism.

Habitats: Coastline/rocky areas (5%, Inland cliffs), Forest (55%, Native coniferous woodland), Grassland (5%, Steppes and dry calcareous grassland), Shrubland (41%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)
Land use: military (5%), not utilised, tourism/recreation (10%)

National Partial International Partial
3,812 ha of IBA covered by National Park (Parnitha, 3,812 ha). Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Voutima/Avlonas, 1,188 ha). 10,070 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Dasoktima Tatoiou-Salonikis-Loimikou-Sinidioktito, 10,070 ha).
14950 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) ETHNIKOS DRYMOS PARNITHAS(GR3000009).
Birds
This is an important area for species associated with conifer forests and upland scrub.

Conservation issues
The main threats are from disturbance and tourism. A National Park management plan is currently being prepared. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
