Site Description
A rugged area of tall cliffs, grassland and Abies and Pinus forests. The main human activities are tourism and livestock-farming.

Habitats: Coastline/rocky areas (20%, Inland cliffs; Scree and boulders), Forest (25%, Native coniferous woodland), Grassland (40%, Alpine, subalpine and boreal grassland; Mesophile grasslands), Shrubland (20%, Sclerophyllous scrub, garrigue and maquis)

Land use: agriculture (50%), not utilised, tourism/recreation (20%)

National Partial International Low
Part of IBA covered by National Park (Parnassos, 3,513 ha). 2,650 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Asprochoma-Psilo-Prontoli-Kelari/Arachovas, 2,650 ha).
3695 ha of the IBA are covered by Special Protection Area (SPA) ETHNIKOS DRYMOS PARNASSOU(GR2410002).


Birds
An important area for raptors and alpine species. Breeding birds include four of the 10 species in Europe that are restricted (when breeding) to the Eurasian high-montane biome.

Conservation issues
The main threats are from tourism development and hunting. A management plan for the Parnassos National Park is under preparation. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
