Site Description
An isolated, mountainous area with ravines and gorges and limestone scree in the alpine zone. Forest cover is dominated by fir Abies and pine Pinus with small patches of deciduous woodland. The main human activity is livestock-farming.

Protection status
National Partial International None 1,420ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Tsouka Sakka- Asprorema/Epinianon, Trovatou, 1,420ha). Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Ag. Nikalaou/Monastirakiou, 815ha).

The area is important for alpine species and raptors.
