This book aims at contributing well-founded information concerning the threatened vertebrates of Greece and the measures that ought to be taken for their protection.

Many Greek - and some foreign - experts in the various vertebrate groups have worked on the writing of this book. Following the general introduction, a few introductory notes are given on each animal group, followed by the data concerning each species and its classification in one of the standard danger groups

A separate chapter is devoted to a brief reference to the threatened invertebrates of the country, and a small text on the importance of protection of habitats in their entirety. Authors’ names are given in the table of contents. Photographs of some threatened animals and characteristic habitats are included.
