Slender-billed Curlew
The Slender-billed Curlew is the rarest bird in Europe, the Middle East and the north of Africa. The last confirmed sighting was in Hungary in 2001. The species is critically endangered. A last effort is in progress before it’s too late. Birdwatchers are asked to be especially vigillant when watching waders and to organise trips to areas suitable for Slender-billed Curlews. The Slender-billed Curlew (Numenius tenuirostris) is a medium sized wader, one of the 6 species of curlews that exist on our planet today. It used to breed in SW Siberia, where in the period of 1909-1924 very few nests had been found. Since then, no one has managed to find a single nest.
